The New Normal

2020 definitely made a mark in the history.  Pandemic is something none of us had experienced before and all of us can relate to. We were sent to work from home for 15 days which quickly changed to 15 months. Before we could be vaccinated, all we spoke about was going back to normal.

The pre-pandemic era, the era we believe was “normal”, was it really normal? The era that measured happiness based on the number of  “wanderlust” pictures we post on the social media. The era where our self worth was measured by the number of zeros in our pay checks.  The era where spending an hour in the traffic was called commute. The era which dictated women’s makeup to be spot on and their bodies to be hairless. The era that normalized “man-up” and expected men to be emotionless. The era that called the most vulnerable people in our society as “lazy” and “futile”.  The era that blinded us  from our privilege and normalized the tunnel vision. Do we really want to go back to  “normal”?

Since we had a chance to reflect on our lives, will the “new normal” be any different?  Will we be more empathetic towards each other? Will we still let FOMOs control our lives? Will we ever be able to achieve a balance between want and need?
